Deruta Galletto Red Large Mug
Perfect for coffee or tea, this ceramic mug was handcrafted and painted by the artists Sberna of Deruta, Umbria, Italy. The Galletto pattern came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about the approach of hired assassins. These mugs are dishwasher safe.
The Galletto Red Mug is 4.5″ in height and can hold 16 oz. Measurements are approximate.
