Deruta Galletto Red 7X4″ Serving Tray
Bring some good fortune and Italian history home with this hand-painted ceramic tray. The Galletto pattern is a modified version of a pattern that came from the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern, and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to approaching hired assassins.
