Deruta Galletto Blue 7″ Small Rooster Pitcher
The Galletto pattern is a modified version of ceramics that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. Because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to hired assassins approaching, rooster pitchers such as this one are considered to be providers of good luck and fortune. This ceramic rooster, or chicken, pitcher was handcrafted and painted by the artists Sberna in Deruta, Italy.
This Rooster Pitcher is 7″ in height and can hold 14 oz. Measurements are approximate.
