Ceramiche di Sicilia 10” Serving/Wall Plate with Lobstermen
We are in Maine, so when we saw this delightful plate with lobstermen hand-painted in Sicily, we just had to add it to our selection. The plate reflects a typical Sicilian scene, right down to the glorious Felucca, a boat traditionally used by Sicilian fishermen. Actually, it is more likely to be a Luzzu, the traditional Maltese fishing boat with eyes on the bow. These eyes are a leftover of Phonecian rule, and they are the Eyes of Horus or Osiris.
This plate was hand-painted by Ceramiche di Sicilia in Baucina, a small town outside Palermo, Sicily, Italy. Artisans in Baucina, Sicily take from the famed artisan Giovanni De Simone is evident in their beautiful work, as you can see on this wonderful plate. At 10″ in diameter, this plate could be used as a dinner plate, a serving plate, or decor, perhaps hanging on the wall.
