Some of our personal favorites that we use in the family have come from Grottaglie, which is in the Italian region of Puglia. We love the whimsical and magical authentic handmade pottery, and we know that these ceramics, made by Ceramiche Antonio Monteforte, are like no other. The artisan is inspired by the sgraffito technique, "sgraffiare" being the Italian word for "to scratch." In this method, the artisan uses a tiny pointed tool, which still to this day is sometimes a porcupine quill, to add texture to the piece before it is fired in the kiln.
