Tuscan Umbrella Stand/Vase with Foglia di Montelupo Blue

The Foglia, or “leaf,” wrapped around the piece, is the oak leaf on so many fragments of early ceramic objects found in archeological sites near Montelupo, a town in the Florentine region of Tuscany. From the end of the 13th century and throughout the Renaissance, the town was one of the most important centers for ceramics production in all of Europe.

This umbrella stand is a regal piece of Italian pottery. It could also be used as a floor vase. This Foglia di Montelupo Blue piece 20″ tall and has a 10″ diameter. Measurements are approximate.
