Deruta Galletto Green Umbrella Stand/Floor Vase

This ceramic umbrella stand was hand painted by the artisans of Ceramiche Sberna. It would make a lovely tall floor vase as well as umbrella stand. The Galletto pattern, also known as Gallo, is a modified version of ceramics that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century.  In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized.  As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. The rooster is on both sides of the piece.

This Galletto piece of Italian pottery is 20″ in height with a 10″ diameter. Measurements are approximate.
