Deruta Galletto Blue Salt and Pepper with Caddy
The Galletto pattern is a modified version of a pattern that came from Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta became the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici to approaching hired assassins.
This ceramic set of salt and pepper with caddy was traditionally handcrafted and painted by the artists of Ceramiche Sberna in Deruta, Italy. The Galletto Blue Salt and Pepper with Caddy is 4.5″ in height. Measurements are approximate.
