Deruta Galletto Blue 8″ Bowl

This ceramic bowl was handcrafted and painted by the artists of Ceramiche Sberna in Deruta, Italy. It is perfect for a single serving of soup, pasta, or salad. The Galletto pattern comes with a history. It is a version of ceramics that came from Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta became the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern, and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. This is because of a legend about the Medici family from the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about the approach of hired assassins.

This bowl is two and a quarter inches in height. It is eight inches in diameter. Measurements are approximate.
