Deruta Galletto Blue 22X9″ Long Oval Serving Platter

The Galletto pattern is a modified version of ceramics that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century.  In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized.  As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. This ceramic platter is the ideal size and shape for serving fish, though it can be used to serve practically any dish, and it was handcrafted and painted by the artists Ceramiche Sberna in Deruta, Umbria, Italy.
