Deruta Galletto Blue 11X5″ Serving Tray
Galletto is a modified version of a pattern that came from Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta became the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern. The leaves were also modernized.
As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune. This is because of a legend about the Medici family in the 15th century in which crowing roosters alerted Giuliano de Medici about the approach of hired assassins. This ceramic tray was hand-painted by Labor Deruta.
