Deruta Galletto Blue 10″ Scalloped Scodella Bowl
The Galletto pattern is a modified version of ceramics that came out of the Umbrian town of Orvieto in the 13th century. In the 19th century, centuries after Deruta had become the center of Umbrian ceramics, a rooster was added to the pattern and the leaves were also modernized. As well as being a lovely addition to the pattern, the rooster is said to bring good fortune to the home. Pictured here is the dish customarily used for single servings of pasta, and it was handcrafted and painted by the artists at Labor Ceramiche in Deruta. A scodella is a shallow bowl or a deep plate, with the edge rising slightly above the center.
