Ceramiche di Sicilia 22” Round Serving/Wall Platter with the Festival on the Island of Ustica

This large platter was handmade in Baucina, a small town outside Palermo, Sicily, Italy. The art on this piece was inspired by De Simone, who created vibrant Italian ceramics that were inspired by Picasso and evoked the culture of Sicily. Every time we look at this platter, we see a new detail. There is so much happening! From the Carabinieri to the market to the band to the puppet show, all the while people watch from their windows with smiles on their faces. Of course, the festivities happen in the town square, in front of the church, with its Madonna and Child and Saints. Ustica is a small island just to the north of Sicily, yet the festival portrayed on this platter, the Festa nell’isola di Ustica, is reminiscent of the festivals held in many Italian towns. This platter can be used for serving and is wired to hang as wall decor.
