Mezzaluna refers to the "half moon" shape of this plate. The scalloped border would be matched elegantly with our scalloped plates. The size of this plate would make it the perfect salad or bread plate, placed to the side of a dinner plate. The Raffaellesco pattern was painted by hand by artisans in Deruta, Italy. Inspired by the dragons on the frescoes painted by Renaissance artist Raphael, the pattern Raffaellesco originated in the late 16th century in Deruta.
